Why Bangladesh?

Roots

Mustang Apparel was created in Bangladesh, the second largest exporter of ready -made garment products in the world for the last three decades, exporting to over 132 Countries around the world. After the independence in 1971, Bangladesh was one of poorest countries in the world. The readymade garment (RMG) industry which is now the single biggest export earner for Bangladesh has been making crucial contribution to rebuilding the country and its economy from its war ravaged state. The sector accounts for 83% of total export earnings of the country. The apparel industry of Bangladesh started its journey in the 1980s and has come to the position it is in today. The growth of this industry has been dramatic, increasing from 30 factories in 1980, to over 6000 in 2014. The RMG sector provides direct employment to around 4.4 million people, 80% of whom are women. Around 20 million people directly and indirectly depend on this sector.

Strengths

Bangladesh offers not only a low competitive cost but also ensures international standard and high quality products for the high-end garment products to renowned global brands such as Adidas, Benetton, Calvin Klein, Diesel, DKNY, G-Star, Hugo Boss, Nike, Puma, Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger. Bangladesh RMG Sector has duty-free market access to most of the developed countries including EU, Norway, Switzerland, Canada, Japan, and Australia. The industry has a versatile array of factories which cater to the various production need of global customers.

Strong Future

Bangladesh Garment Manufacturer and Exporters Association (BGMEA) is working to build a safe and sustainable garment industry. Under “TREES” (Toward Resource Efficiency and Environmental Sustainability) there is a rapid adoption of energy efficient and environmentally friendly manufacturing processes in most garment factories. Alongside this, worker safety and wellbeing is also flourishing in the RMG sector in Bangladesh

The readymade garments industry acts as a catalyst for the development of Bangladesh, with its crucial contribution in maintaining 6% annual average GDP growth rate. The “Made in Bangladesh” tag has also brought glory to the country, making it a prestigious brand across the globe. Bangladesh, which was once termed by cynics a “bottomless basket” has now become a “basket full of wonders.” Bangladesh as a nation takes great pride in being the such an important part of the global RMG value chain.
